Ants
25 different ant species have been recorded in Bermuda, and the most common are the Argentine Ant & African Big-Headed Ant
Argentine Ant
- Small, 1/8″ light to dark brown bodies
- No spines or nodes on thorax
- Travel in distinct trails along edges and surfaces
- Emit a musty odor when crushed
African Big-Headed Ant
- Reddish-brown color, 1/8-1/4″ in length
- Two distinct sizes (major and minor workers)
- Major/Soldier Workers have large heads
- Slow-moving compared to other ant species
Hazards

Signs of an Infestation
Visible trails: Lines of ants moving between food sources and nest entrances
Small piles of soil: Tiny mounds of excavated dirt near cracks in pavement, foundations, or soil
